چکیده

The response of a bridge tower-pier system resting on elastic soil, with a sliding foundation obeying Coulomb's friction law, is studied. The stiffness and damping of the supporting soil is fully taken into account. The action of the suspension bridge cables is equivalent to a horizontal elastic restraint at the top of the tower. The differential equations of motion of the pier are formulated for its horizontal displacement and rocking angle. The two possible modes of horizontal motion of the pier, the 'arrested' and the 'sliding' motion, are taken into account. The transitions between these two modes are considered during numerical integration. A parametric study is carried out with emphasis on the residual slippage and the developed moment in the pier foundation due to rocking. This study was motivated by the need to understand the potential seismic response of a large suspension bridge proposed for the RionAntirrion straits, in Greece. Concerning the Effect of a Viscoelastic Foundation on the Dynamic Stability of a Pipeline System Conveying an Incompressible Fluid

In this paper, we present an analytical method for solving a well-posed boundary value problem of mathematical physics governing the vibration characteristics of an internal flow propelled fluid-structure interaction where the pipeline segment is idealized as an elastic hollow beam conveying an incompressible fluid on a viscoelastic foundation. The effect of Coriolis and damping forces on the o...

Natural Frequency and Dynamic Analyses of Functionally Graded Saturated Porous Beam Resting on Viscoelastic Foundation Based on Higher Order Beam Theory

In this paper, natural frequencies and dynamic response of thick beams made of saturated porous materials resting on viscoelastic foundation are investigated for the first time. The beam is modeled using higher-order beam theory. Kelvin-voight model is used to model the viscoelastic foundation. Distribution of porosity along the thickness is considered in two different patterns, which are symme...

Thermoelastic response of microbeams under a magnetic field rested on two-parameter viscoelastic foundation

Mechanical foundations and pavements design need a perfect prediction of the response of the material to reach a reliable and safe structure. This work deals with the thermoelastic response of microbeams rested on a two-parameter viscoelastic foundation due to a magnetic field in the context of the dual - phase lag thermoelasticity model. The solutions of the governing equations are attained us...

This paper discusses static and dynamic response of nanoplate resting on an orthotropic visco-Pasternak foundation based on Eringen’s nonlocal theory. Graphene sheet modeled as nanoplate which is assumed to be orthotropic and viscoelastic. By considering the Mindlin plate theory and viscoelastic Kelvin-Voigt model, equations of motion are derived using Hamilton’s principle which are then solved...
